Gourmet Super Bowl Food Ideas

I’m sharing some football food ideas for super bowl snacks when you want a satisfying indulgence, that’s a bit more gourmet, to ‘watch’ the game.

I love the ‘holiday’ of the Super Bowl to celebrate the end of football season, and enjoy making food that’s indulgent but also gourmet. For me, it’s a fun excuse to make something special. Traditional game day foods like dips, wings and nachos are great, but I like to turn the volume up a bit and make recipes a bit lighter and/or more flavorful. I’m sharing recipes that you can pick at while the game is on, rather than a sit down meal. The following Super Bowl meal ideas would be great for any game day, not just the ‘big game.’

Skillet Creamed Street Corn Chicken

Recipe by Half Baked Harvest

This saucy one pan chicken recipe has great protein and is lightened up using cream cheese and Greek yogurt. You can scoop up the sauce with warm soft tortillas, or corn chips on the side. If you don’t want to serve full pieces of chicken, you can always shred it up and add it back into pan to serve.

Tortilla Chip-Crusted Baked Jalapeño Poppers

Recipe by Ambitious Kitchen

This is a lightened up take on jalapeño poppers, which are traditionally fried. These bites are perfect Super Bowl appetizers. Baking them also saves time and mess over frying. Pro tip, use disposable nitrile gloves when handling spicy peppers!

Hummus with Whipped Feta & Chili Oil

Recipe by Platings & Pairings

This is an elevated take on the typical cheesy bean dip, using hummus and feta. It’s a super satisfying texture and delicious to scoop up with warm, soft pita, pita chips or a good grain cracker. You can even serve it with some crunchy veggies like sliced radish, sliced cucumber, carrot and bell peppers.

Ahi Tuna Wonton Nachos with Wasabi Mayo

Recipe by Cooking with Cocktail Rings

These nachos are perfect for gourmet game day foods. One adjustment I’d make is that I would bake the wonton chips for less mess and calories, using a recipe like this. The recipe also calls for Kewpie, which is traditionally made with soybean oil and MSG. You can substitute for your regular mayonnaise, and an avocado oil based mayo if you’re concerned about refined seed oils.

Spicy Korean BBQ Chicken Wings

Recipe by Creme De La Crumb

Baked wings can actually come out crispy because of the fat naturally found in them. This recipe calls for 15 minutes in the oven, but this will vary by size and water content of the wings. You can roast them until they’ve rendered and crisped up. Some of the reviews noted the sauce was too salty, so it might be best to use a low sodium soy sauce/tamari.

BBQ Chicken Pita Pizzas

Recipe by Two Peas & Their Pod

When it comes to Super Bowl snacks, pizza is always a hit. I like how easy these pizzas are to make, and they offer great protein from the shredded chicken. They also serve as a perfect personal sized pizza, or if serving a crowd, are easy to cut into small triangles or strips. I’d also highly recommend serving this with ranch, and if you want an easy homemade version, try this Greek yogurt ranch recipe.

Sweet Bites

Super Bowl snack ideas don’t have to be savory. If you want some ideas for sweet bites, that satisfy but are more nourishing than typical desserts, try a no-bake ball. Here are a few ideas I’ve posted on my blog.
